About Us
Caroline Rigby - Musical Director
Caroline believes that most people can sing with encouragement and practice so that choir sessions can be enjoyed both by those with little experience and also by those who sing regularly.
She starts each session with a warm-up that includes non-strenuous physical and vocal activities and breathing exercises, leading to seasonal rounds and short part-songs. Longer or more complex songs are introduced gradually, building up the harmony parts until everyone is confident.
Songs are chosen from a variety of cultures (e.g. Africa, Eastern Europe, Georgia, America as well as folk songs collected locally from South West England) and in different languages.
Caroline Rigby sings and performs with a small a cappella group 'Bosom Friends' and has been running successful harmony song workshops for several years. She is a member of the Natural Voice Network.
The choir members:
We currently have between 30 and 35 members who share a common joy of joining together in song. Here is a selection of their comments:
"The choir is the only activity that drags me out of my Parker Knoll of an evening. The feel good factor after singing to the best of one's ability is as refreshing as leaping out of bed and opening the curtains onto a bright spring day." Belinda
"Choir sessions should be available on the NHS- they are so therapeutic. Great sense of achievement and well-being." Anne
